  • Edward James +111 out of 10, perfect submission. Well done, going to assume this was Claire. Wish I had thought of it myself. “Time, truth, heart.” Indeed
  • Joseph Harvey +1I don’t love the killers, but this is a convincing read
  • fionmul 0I like the vision
  • Brad Stalcup 0What a great song. "last call for sin"
  • Claire 0Smells like Eddie. Incredible song. Narrowly missed my top 4

  • SamRobertsND +1Peter: "I don't normally like that musical style but this was done really well, I liked it. It fits the theme well, told from the killer's perspective and yet there's real pathos there still. It almost feels like the killer believes his own excuses." I love the Killers' sound, how could a Hillsdale alumnus not. I agree with everything Peter said, and the fact that it was based on a real murder makes it all the more poignant.

  • Edward James +1This is one of my favorite songs ever. That driving bass line is heavenly. The five song stretch from this song to “All These Things That I’ve Done” (and on their debut album nonetheless) is one of the greatest five song stretches in music history. Which makes it all the more astounding that I never knew it was about a murder mystery. Perfect submission, well done.
  • fionmul 0memorable, but if this was claire i love you forever

  • fionmul +1I didn’t think of this and I could see how some may judge it as basic but this theme sort of implies nostalgic classics and I’ll never not bop to this. Might be my top pick of the non stomp clap possibilities for this round. (The movie About Time made me like this song even more!) it is the only one here that you could say “defined a generation” I would give it 2 votes if I didn’t like others as much as I do. Is this Sam?
  • Brad Stalcup +1Garage Rock sound (check) Overly Sappy and Whiny Lyrics (check) Low Quality Synth (check) I think this is the perfect 2005 song. Therefore I grant it one upvote.
  • Joseph Harvey +1Hard to argue. A shame that this is their only good song (that I’ve heard)
  • SamRobertsND 0Catholic Communists at Hillsdale would be upset with me but I've never loved it, mostly because I associate it with pseudo-intellectual hedonism
  • Claire 0Was torn on this one. On the one hand, it’s a pretty predictable/mainstream pick. On the other hand, this song played at a wedding reception has the power to activate the sleeper agent inside every millennial and make them jump up and down with reckless abandon. In the end it was narrowly edged of my top 4, but thank you, to whoever submitted this, for the massive serotonin hit that I got from hearing the opening guitar riff. Never fails
