Joseph Harvey: This will get no votes but this is a cool and subtle narrative song that was the first to come to mind for me

  • Peter Seeley +2Thanks Joe

  • Claire 0Musically super cool song but to be honest the story is just okay
  • Edward James -1I didn't find this very narratively compelling...not really a story song. And I also thought it was just an alright song.

Joseph Harvey: It was good enough for Johnny Cash to cover

  • SamRobertsND +1Peter: "The lyrics tell a compelling story with pathos. The rhythm is very interesting. The transition to the chorus is smooth. Fits the category really well." I've loved this song for a while. It's such a strange circumstance; makes you think about how your life can be ruined in an instant. Very well done, Joseph.
  • fionmul +1at first i thought the person killed their brother. i love the storytelling of this song and the ending smacking of Christian Hope the best to ever do it, absolute legend, whoever submitted this has brilliant taste 💯
  • Claire +1I was struck by the way this song gets into the interior life of the killer himself. Also of course “these are difficult times.” I feel like it isn’t just a gimmick though, it adds to the melancholy and (dare I say) psychological disjointedness that the song is trying to capture. Love the instrumentation too. Gordon gets my vote

  • judd.baker 0Truly stacked round, almost voted for this but I liked a few other songs more. But this is excellent. Props for the inclusion of an unintentional homicide in this round
  • Edward James 0I love this song and this version has an absolutely killer saxophone part, but others just beat it for me.

  • Edward James +1Banger. I’d see this musical.

  • judd.baker +1This song is spellbinding. Casting the characters in the story of the Resurrection as, what, Scots Irish sailors? It’s mystical, the connections are inexplicable and murky, I loved every minute of it. Can’t believe I haven’t heard this before but my Sting knowledge is pretty shallow actually.
